NOTE TO SHOP OWNERS:
Open Wide 2.0 is an update of Open Wide which was released in 2016. Just like a new edition of a textbook, this new version of the pattern features improved design and layout, easier-to-follow steps and diagrams, and our newest and best techniques.
We have also filmed an Add-On Video for the project to help you and your customers make these bags. Since the Open Wide 2.0 pattern includes a coupon to get the Add-On Video at no charge, we would recommend that they purchase the new and improved version of the pattern.
Open Wide 2.0 makes a great class for all levels of sewists, from beginners to more advanced makers. We’d suggest a 3 to 4-hour class for this project. Students should be able to complete one bag in class if they come to class prepared.
We recommend that students come to class with their fabric quilted and everything cut out for their project. So, they should complete all of step I. Cut and Quilt on page 2 of the pattern before coming to class.
NOTE: We recommend that students make the MEDIUM bag in class. It is quicker than the large and is a bit easier than the small for beginners.
IMPORTANT NOTE TO TEACHERS:
We have changed a number of the bag dimensions and markings from the original pattern. For instance, the small bag now has a wider base so will stand up better.
We’ve also changed the inner pockets. Rather than being made from a single piece of mesh, the new version has two separate mesh pockets. This uses less mesh but more fold-over elastic.
If you teach classes and have students working from both the original and the 2.0 patterns, remind students to carefully follow the cutting. marking, and assembly instructions in the pattern which they are using.
Add-on Video notice: There is an Add-on Video(TM) available for this pattern. The Add-on Video(TM) is specially designed to support specific parts of the pattern and help the customer learn our best techniques. It doesn’t replace the pattern — it will enhance their sewing experience.
To support local quilt shops, related paper patterns include a coupon for the value of the Add-on Video(TM). This is a $5.00 value. Customers can then use the coupon to get the video for free on our website.
